One zebra life

I remember reading a book as a kid about a zebra. The moral to the story was: life is made of black and white stripes. Well, I prefer to think of them as waves.

I am just sitting here comparing this Friday to the last Friday. Last Friday, I had absolutely nothing scheduled for the weekend, noone to go out with, nothing exciting to do. My phone didn't ring once that night!

Now, this Friday, all of a sudden, everyone thought of me: my sis is coming to visit; my neighbor Rick, who I haven't talked to in two weeks wants to go out; Bob wants to go out; Andy (my ex-boyfriend whom I still see on occasion) whom I haven't seen or talked to in 2-3 weeks, decided to stop by my office today and ask if I want to go out this weekend; on top of that I just got asked on a date for this weekend by some random guy out on the street!
What is going on?

I just think it's funny. You may not, but I'm laughing my ass off! I bet this wave is going to pass and I'll be sitting here next Friday with nothing to do again :-)

Hail to the zebras!

TGIF!

I'm so excited that it's Friday! I have to go into work tomorrow for a couple of hours but that doesn't count!

My sister called me late last night and told me that her, my Mom and my niece decided to come visit me on Saturday. We talked about it before but decided that we weren't going to get together this weekend because we'll see each other in about a week and a half any way. Well, I am excited that she changed her mind because her and hubby are trying to get pregnant with their second child and I want to have one more girls night out with her before that happens :-)
So, once I get off work, I'll have to run to the grocery store and stock up. Right now, the contents of my fridge are as follows: beer, wine, bag of leaf lettuce, half of a tomato and two apples.

Bob called me yesterday to just chat. He had some friends in town visiting so he was going to hang out with them. I might go out with him tonight. If not, my neighbor Rick wanted to do something this weekend, so I have another option!

On to going through the pile on my desk so I can get the heck out of here early.
Have a good weekend ya all!

Pressure

Why is our society so couple-oriented? Why do the single girls feel out of place when they have to go to a wedding solo? Why do people look at a girl funny if she is alone at a restaurant or buying a house by herself? I can go on with these questions. I've experienced it all! Frankly, I am getting a little sick of this pressure.

Sadly, a lot of it comes from my closest friends. I know that they mean well when they get so excited for me when I am going on a first date with someone but they don't understand how much pressure they put on me when they have me married to this guy that I just met in a matter of a 5-minute conversation. All of my friends are very happily married; they think that is what my goal should be. I'm not sure that's what I am actively pursuing though. I am just looking for a "partner in crime", someone whose company I can enjoy no matter what the situation is. Everything else will fall into place.

What started this venting session is my conversation I had with my best friend S. yesterday. I told her about our date with Bob and she wasn't impressed with the fact that he didn't take me to a fancy restaurant, so she automatically thought he wasn't worth my time. I tried to tell her that the fact that her now hubby took her to an expensive restaurant for their first date didn't affect their future marriage at all but she wouldn't listen, so I am just going to do what I think is right for me!

Not sure where I was going with this :-) Just jotting down some thoughts.

The Date Report

The date last night went very well. Bob and I decided to keep it casual, we went to this Greek Pizzeria a block from my house and had some great food. We then moved next door for a couple of drinks and ended up at my house watching TV for a little while. The last part was a little awkward because I think we were both craving some "snuggling time" (he even told me before how much he liked doing that) but weren't comfortable enough with each other to get too close yet.

Overall, he is probably not as serious as the guys that I normally date but I can use some fun in my life. I am serious enough for both of us sometimes, so it's not a deal breaker for me for now.

We'll see how it goes. The butterflies are still here for now :-)

Homerun!

Guess what! Bob called! Yep, he called last night and we are going out tonight! Not sure what we are doing yet but I am so excited! I know I might be completely disappointed by this time tomorrow (happened way too many times before) but I refuse to be overcautious when it comes to dating. I want to enjoy the jitters.
Wish me luck! I'll keep you posted.

Batter up!

Well, Saturday night was very interesting. I went out to the bars. Noticed this guy staring at me so I smiled back. We started talking, he told me his name was Bob. He was cute, nice and funny, the whole nine yards. We ended up going to some afterparty with some of his friends. Had tons of fun! He said he would call me in the next few days.

I am not holding my breath but I really hope he does. I googled him today and it turns out that he is a pro-baseball player, a good one too. He mentioned something about that on Saturday but I didn't pay much attention :-) Oops!

Come on phone! Ring! Ring!

When did it become scary?

When did dating stop being fun and became scary? I'm in a dating slump yet again. I got dumped by a guy that I wasn't even dating yesterday! Yes, it was my neighbor Rick. Angel, you were absolutely right about how bad it was to date neighbors but I kind of liked this guy and hoped that something would come out of it. However, I could tell he was still hung up on his ex-girlfriend and I didn't want to be a rebound girl so we just hung out as friends. Sure enough, he told me yesterday that he got back together with her. I played it cool and told him I was happy for him (which I was) but, for some reason, couldn't help but feel empty when I got home... Since I gave up on online dating for now, that leaves me with absolutely no plans for the upcoming weekend. Anybody wants to come visit? :-)

On a lighter note, I bought my first two pieces of new furniture last weekend! Everything else I've ever had in my apartment was bought used or handed down to me. I got and awesome red couch and a chair to go with it! I'm not going to be embarrassed about inviting someone over any more! Funny story actually, the couch that I bought didn't fit through my apartment door when they delivered it last night! Obviously some smart person decided to put a wall to divide the kitchen and the living room right in front of the door when designing my apartment, so that left about a 30 inch-wide hallway to get through. My poor delivery guys tried everything imaginable but the couch didn't want to go in. Lucky for me, there was a slightly shorter loveseat in the same set that I exchanged my couch for at the store. They even delivered it to me this morning for free! Made my day!

I can't think of anything else interesting to write about. So long for now!

Just a neighbor, a friend or more?

Well, I met this boy over the weekend and just don't know what to think of him...

Rick is my neighbor. We've seen each other at the pool a few times, usually exchanged "hellos" and weather comments. This Sunday, it was just him and I at the pool. We just sat there across the pool from each other for a while, finally started talking, one thing after another... I spent the rest of the day with him having drinks and playing cards. Had a blast. The hangover the next day at work wasn't fun but totally worth it.

Couple of concerns though:
  • He is 3 years younger than me
  • He is still in college (I always thought I needed a more mature man, so I never dated anyone younger)
  • He just broke up with a girlfriend and he is a little worked up about it which is understandable.

On the flip side:

  • He is smart, funny, driven and extremely hot!

So, we'll see what happens. If nothing else, I found a cool friend. Just like me, he just moved here and doesn't know many people.

Back to work I go. It's such a gloomy rainy day outside that I just want to go home and curl up on the couch but that's not an option... (Sigh)

Men still puzzle me...

They do! I consider myself fairly experienced when it comes to dating but men still manage to leave me baffled often. Here's an example for you.

Pre-story: Andy is my ex-boyfriend whom I dated for about 4 months. Everything was going great when one day, after a fun night out he told me he would call the next day to go to a concert and didn't. I waited till the day after and left him a voicemail. Didn't hear back for TWO WEEKS! I was pissed! Even more so, because the only reservation I had when I started dating him was his height. I am 5'8 which is fairly tall for a woman, I like to wear high heels so I am really particular about my dates being taller than me. That's just what feels comfortable to me. It's not shallow, just a fact. Well, Andy is a good inch shorter than me, even when I am not wearing any heels. That was a huge problem for me at first but I was able to look past it because I really had a good time with him but I still felt that I was doing him a favor of sorts by being with him. I don't know if it was right of me to feel that way but I did.

So, I was pissed for a few days. Then I decided it was time to get on with my life and went out bar hopping with a girlfriend of mine and ran into Ryan, who I mentioned here before. Ryan, his friend, my girlfriend and I ended up having a fun night going from bar to bar but that was all that happened. Then the Friday after that I get a text from Andy around 10pm asking me what I was doing, as I am going into a bar again. I ignored it since I didn't think he deserved a response after ignoring me for 2 weeks for no apparent reason. Of course, he happened to show up at the same club I was at that night. He tried to act like nothing happened. I was nice and polite, even danced with him but when he tried to kiss me on the dance floor, I told him that was not a good idea. He proceeded to ask me to go home with him but I just laughed and walked off. All that happened in front of his friends, by the way. He proceeded to call me and text me several times that night until I finally picked up. He tried to say that he was just busy and meant to call me several times but never did. WTF? I told him it was too late for apologies and that I wasn't going to let anyone treat me this way.

Then, he tried to turn it around on me and tell me that he saw me with Ryan the weekend before and wondered if I was cheating on him. Once again, WTF? First of all, did you catch me having sex with Ryan or even making out? NO. Second of all, you saw me with Ryan 10 days after we were supposed to go to a concert and you never called or returned my messages. How long was I supposed to wait for you? Any how, I told him that I had nothing else to say to him. He laughed and said that I obviously wanted him back since I was having this conversation with him at 3am, so I just hung up.

That was back in March. I've seen him on campus (he is a football coach at a university I work at) and we exchanged "hellos" a couple of times but that was it for our communication.

So, last night, I got a phone call from him at 2:15am!!! WTF? He was obviously drunk-dialing (the bars close at 2am here) but how desperate was he! I actually do miss the good times we had but if he wanted to try and patch things up he could have come with a better way than a drunken phone call in the middle of the night!
Puzzling!

TGIF everyone! Sorry for a long pointless story. You deserve a medal if you read through the whole thing ;-). I had some cute pictures to dress it up with but "the blogger" decided not to let me upload them... Oh, well!

Football, Hockey and Soccer Season!

I am so excited that my favorite time of the year is almost here! I love everything about FALL: the weather, the yellow leaves, that special smell in the air, football, soccer and hockey games!

It's sort of bittersweet though because I have noone to go to the games with. Two people that I've gotten close to in the last few months since I moved here had to move away. I am back to square one. People I work with don't share my interest in sports so I guess I am going to the first home football game this Saturday all by myself. Oh, well. Enough whining!

I spent a wonderful weekend with my sister, brother-in-law, niece, Mom, and several close friends. We cooked a whole bunch of food, ate, drank, and talked. It was a great time. Oh, and my hunter brother-in-law let me shoot some targets. Turns out - I am pretty good! Who would have thought ;-)

Funny Story from My Niece for you:
My niece Allison is 2.5 years old. She is at that age when she makes all kinds of hilarious remarks. I also have to note that she is quite a fashionista. She's been fascinated with shoes and purses ever since she was old enough to crawl and she is very particular about what she wants to wear every day.

So, my Mom, who's been babysitting my niece, was trying on some clothes that my sis gave her. She put on this shirt and was looking at herself in the mirror while Allison watched the whole process.
Allison: You are so pretty!
Mom: (a little shocked) Thank you baby
Allison: (pauses) That shirt is so small for you...

Mom almost died laughing. She didn't expect a 2.5 y.o. girl to be so insightful!

Gem of an online profile

I'm feeling much better today. Ignore my last post.
I got a wink from this guy on match.com this morning and once I opened up his profile, I just had to share this gem with the world since I couldn't stop laughing for 30 min. Here's what he says. (all spelling and punctuation are that of the profile author)

His opening line: swwet nice and lovable (did you mean sweat? that's really attractive!)

In his own words: i am sweet nice, out going fun to be around love to go to the movies and dinner. im up to about anything. looking for a lady down to earth. like to stay home and kuttly on the coach with a good movie. (who needs punctuation or capitalization! still not sure if I want to "kuttly" on the couch with you)

for fun: i lo everyve holding hands with that specail one, going to the movie, and i nice dinner. do what every that specail lady wants to do (I am not even going to try and comment on this one)

my job:im a bircklayer (how exactly do you lay bircks? that's a new one for me)

favorite hot spots:my hot spots are with that spcaial lady, im up to what every my lady wants (once again, no comment)

favorite things:i love pizza, my fav. color is red, raining out side be with my lady, love going to church, chichen music (This one really puzzled me... What's a chichen music? Did you mean you liked chichen and music or chichen music or was it really chicken? Wow! Intriguing!)

I am not going to make you read the rest. Obviously it caught my attention. Not in a good way...
I am really curious to know how many replies this guy actually gets since he has no picture posted and doesn't seem to posess any outstanding qualities based on his own descriptions.

Happy Friday ya all!
